April ONeil, the reporter friend of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is kidnapped by the villainous Shredder and his two goons, Bebop and Rocksteady. The four ninja turtles: Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo fight their way through hordes of Foot Soldiers in order to rescue April. They battle familiar foes such as the mad scientist Baxter Stockman, General Traag from Dimension X and the evil alien brain Krang, up to the final showdown with Shredder himself.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game is a port of the popular arcade game made by Konami during the height of the cartoon series’ popularity. Depending on the version of the game, up to two, three or four players can take part in the action. The game plays like a simplified Double Dragon. While most of the standard Foot Soldier enemies are easily dispatched, some attack with knives or ray guns and are thus more dangerous. At the end of each level, players encounter a boss (or in certain cases two bosses working in tandem, such as Bebop and Rocksteady).

The NES version of the game features additional content not present in other versions of the game: two new levels (Snowy Central Park and The Dojo), new bosses (including Tora, Shogun and Baxter Stockman as a fly), additional music tracks as well as more variations of Foot Soldiers. –

  1. Jo-El and Batman Adam aiding the TMNT.

  2. If you hit A and B at once in this game you can execute an attack that kills Foot Solders in one hit.

  3. Scene 6, second white tiger. That's the farthest I've gone in this game. Till I played through an emulator. Great game. Reminds me of Blockbuster Video with my dad, and a mom and pop video rental store with my cousins and uncle

  4. It will always amaze me what a great job Konami did with the NES port of this game. Sure the graphics are watered down and you couldn’t have as many enemies on screen but they got everything in there. Truly a classic.

  5. This game was far superior compared to the first Turtles game.

  6. This was better than the arcade version too which oddly enough was shorter. I always died on the samurai Boss.

  7. my favorite nes game together with smash tv and river city ransom

  8. I am a big TMNT fan! I grew up with the cartoon show! But I've NEVER seen that polar bear before. Can somebody please tell me where he is from? Any comics or something?

  10. This game and TMNT 3 where pretty long games for a beat em up if we compare with arcade games or other NES games like Double Dragon, and yea yeah River City is longer but have the password thing. Is fun when a beat em up is long, but I remenber after a while you used to get tired (not bored, just tired) about playing. Im think that is the reason why TMNT 4 for SNES where longer than the arcade but not much like this 2 NES games.

  11. I still like Ninja Turtles-87! Favorite heroes of my childhood!

  21. It's games like this that make you wish the NES was able to have 4 players. That's the one thing that sucks about this game. You're only able to play with 2 turtles instead of all 4 like the arcade version. Same with Turtles in Time on the Super Nintendo.

  22. I remember playing this game and then popping in my vhs tapes for Tmnt movies! Man I miss my childhood in the 80's & 90's!
