It’s DF Retro’s BIGGEST episode yet – split into three parts running in consecutive weeks. John Linneman and Audi Sorlie revisit the launch of the Sony PlayStation from its origins in Japan to its eventual rollout across the globe – and in the process, assess every single launch title in all three territories, stacking them up against other versions on other systems. It’s coverage without compromise. This is DF Retro.

  1. Does anyone have a list of the music they used in this video? Didn't DF used to have a list of the tracks in the description in older videos?

  2. I remember as a kid going to Blockbuster and renting the Playstation a few times before my parents got me one. I remember not having a memory card and playing Resident Evil I finally made it all the way to the Tyrent one time and died, it was the first time I screamed at my TV.

  3. Great video. would like to see one about saturn too. What do you think?

  4. Neo Geo AES started the use of memory card almost 4 years earlier than the PlayStation.

  5. Oh wow, I always thought core designs Fighting Force was the next step for streets of rage 4 but no i was wrong. Nekeketsu Oyako was the next evolution for streets of rage 4. cool video. i'll be tuning in tomorrow for part 2.

  6. Love these retro themed semi-documentary videos. Looking forward for part 2! I hope you will make the same thing for the Saturn at some point 🙂

  7. Stopped watching when you said ridge Racer had good drifting

  8. Lol all those ads. Luckily I'm watching using vanced so you won't get a penny out of me

  9. Talking about Mahjong games, could you make a video about that Mahjong game on the Super Famicom that included in its cartridge the most expensive "support chip" ever made for that console? It made the game retail for more than 13000 yens or something like that.

  10. I remember when I first had my PS1. I was living in my newly renovated apartment with my sis and mom. I was only about 13 and oh man it was the time of my life. I also had my SNES and Yoshis island was out around the time too.. I had friends come to visit then. I miss those days 😢

  11. Riiidge racer did you remember that one?

I miss the Japanese staff of playstation…

  12. This entire video works because of that CRT background display. Beautiful compositions! My Life in Gaming would be proud!

  13. you shouldnt forget the SATURN was MASTER on rendering 2D sprites. The PS was not really designed for it, this is why a lot of these 2d sprites games look worst than in Saturn.
