A maze game where the basic layout of Pengo is akin to that of Namco’s legendary ‘Pac-Man’; featuring, as it does, a top down, single screen, maze-like arrangement. Pengo’s enemies, the Sno-Bees, are also similar to the Blinky, Inky, Clyde etc. – the ghosts that pursued Pac-man; not least because Sno-bees also come in 4 different varieties, each represented by a different colour.. One aspect that distinguishes Pengo from the Namco classic is that the Maze itself is a wholly interactive environment. Each section of wall is represented as a block of ice, which can be pushed onto the Sno-bees to destroy them. The Sno-bees themselves will destroy the ice blocks as they move around each level, so speed is of the essence. Some of the blocks are ‘Diamond blocks’ which cannot be destroyed, and can be re-used by Pengo.
The outer wall of each level can also be utilized; if the player pushes against the wall when a Sno-bee is next to it, The Sno-bee will be temporarily stunned; allowing Pengo to move in for the kill.

Note: Used invincibility cheat after down to last life.

  1. A far better documentary on the harsh daily life faced by the peguin than March of the Penguins ever was. Who knew they had to push around so many ice blocks???

  2. One of the best games ever developed!! IS there any chance to get this (in the original version, not a crappy remake!!) for PC? And Galaga? And Phoenix? And Moon Cresta? And Donkey Kong? And again, NOT some online b u l l s h i t e, I want the original!!!!

  3. What's the point if you're just cheating? You didn't even mention it in the description. You should at least mention it so people don't get confused.

  5. I want to say that a more demonic version of the Sno-Bees appeared in Sega's Ghostbusters game.

  6. cheater, very lame. the snobees go through you, booo

  7. Why aren't you dying when contacting with the snow-bees? Cheat?

  8. Before Sonic the Hedgehog there was Pengo.

  9. one of my favorite arcade games. i think it was underrated.

  10. Well I'll be darned… I learned a few things by watching the "attract mode" game play for this. I never knew you could make the outer wall "vibrate" and stun the bad guys! I also didn't know you got a 10,000 point bonus by arranging the 3 diamond blocks in a line. Interesting. Also, at 1:111:12 or so, Pengo walks right through one of the bad guys with no harm to himself. Glitch?

  11. Dang, the composer has a good taste in music.

  12. Didn't know this game was made by SEGA. This was years before Sonic!

  13. Instead of hanging out with my course mates I played this game and Super Locomotive over and over again in my college refectory a lifetime ago, I was such a nerdy loner. I still know the music by heart. The best thing about Pengo was that you got a free game every time you switched it off at the wall and re-booted it. Those were the best of days although I didn't know it at the time. Do any of us? Age catches us all eventually but memory is forever, and it is blue and sounds like Popcorn.

  14. Fucking learn to play the fucking game before you post it!

  15. I hate playing this with a Japanese style joystick

  16. is there any retrogaming console that has this game?

  17. Not gonna lie, this game is SO obscure and cute too

  18. I don't understand the behaviour of the AI. Is it just wander randomly? They seem to pursuit you sometimes, but then they turn away at the last moment. Can someone elaborate on this? I have to make this game for an exam 😀

  19. What I love about 'Pengo' is that the arcade game; takes me back to the time of, when I was looking at and reading the 'Little Archie's comic book series.

  20. I used to spend money on arcade machine for this game

  21. 35 years since I don’t see this! One of my favorite ever and first coin-game. 😁

  22. This is a good game on general. WHY CANT I MAKE IT ON SCRATCH?????

  23. cheaters never prosper, boo, you stink! you noclipped right through the snow-bees.

  24. Seems like the game is just like pacman when you completed the level and defeat one enemy at a time then somehow respawn like the ghost in pacman when he eats them then the eyes return to the cage and comeback to hunt down the player.

  25. Nossa que fraqueza só conseguiu juntar os diamantes 1 x

  26. I remember again my personal record 268.000 😍😍😍

  27. I love how they referenced the opening buzzing theme in Sonic CD's Metallic Madness!

  28. Buen juego muy difícil
    Elevator accion
    Dig dug

  29. Its funny, I think I saw this game online a while ago and only remembered it because of that chiptune version of Popcorn, so i just looked for "Penguin arcade game" and I found it

  30. Heard the popcorn song somewhere else & it gave me nostalgic flashbacks to this game from when I was like 6 or 7😪😪

  31. Not a fan. It's cute of course, but way too difficult, even in the first couple of levels. There's a reason you don't see people playing Pengo on Twitch (Retro category) – it sucks.
